The memorial plaque commemorating the journalist and photographer Jean Pierre Pedrazzini was installed on the initiative of his family members, the French newspaper "Paris Match" and the Hungarian Federation of Political Prisoners with the support of the French Embassy. Jean Pierre Pedrazzini was born into a family of French and Swiss ancestry in 1927 in Paris. After completing his university studies in Nice and Neuchâtel, he became a photographer for the renowned newspaper „Paris Match“. Pedrazzini traveled through numerous countries due to this occupation, East European states above all. In 1956, he undertook a journey to the Soviet Union, afterwards continuing on to Budapest as a final destination on October 27, 1956. Four days prior to this, the Revolution had broken out in Hungary, and Pedrazzini was able to document the dramatic historical events in the capital city and the province (Modsonmagyarórvár). His photographs were printed in „Paris Match“ and allowed the west to gain an impression of the Revolution. On October 30, 1956, Pedrazzini was seriously wounded by several bullets during skirmishes between the Hungarian Secret Police and insurgents at Köztársaság Square. Initially, he was taken to the Sandor Petőfi Hospital for medical treatment, which was then controlled by the insurgents. After an emergency operation, Pedrazzini was transported to Paris, where he died from his wounds on November 7, 1956. Posthumously, he was inducted into the French Legion of Honour. To this day, his photographs remain important historical documents of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
